How to secure computer networks

There are seven ways How to secure computer networks. This method applies to all operating systems. Wheater Network Operating System (Windows Server, Unix / Linux) or Stand Alone Operating System (Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 "Seven")

1. Set access control
Regulate access to information through the mechanism of "authentication" and "access control". The implementation of this mechanism by using the "password".

2. Closing the unused services
Often the system (hardware and software) provided with some services running as a default. The service is not all needed. To secure the system, unneeded services on the server (computer) should be turned off

3. Install protection or Firewall
To further improve the security of information systems, protection can be added. This protection can be a filter (in general) and the more specific is a firewall.

4. Monitoring attacks on the system
Monitoring system is used to determine the existence of uninvited guests (an intruder) or of an attack. Another name of this system is the "intruder detection systems" (IDS). This system can notify an administrator such as via e-mail

5. Observing log files
Most of the activities of the use of the system can be recorded in the file which is usually called a "log file" or "log"only. Log file is very useful to observe deviations that occur. Failure to enter into the system (login), for example, is stored in log files

6. Backup regularly
Often the uninvited guest (intruder) into the system and damage the system by deleting files that can be encountered. If an intruder is breaking into the system and log in as super user (administrator), then there is the possibility he could erase the whole file

7. Using encryption
One mechanism to improve security is to use encryption technology. The data submitted amended in such a way that is not easily tapped

By applying the seven steps above, your network can function properly and safely
